Rejection in your network marketing business is always a probability in any relationship and a risk you have to take if you want to build one. It's date. You are never really sure if the other person will agree, but you try anyway. According to a study conducted in the U.S., 80 percent of all sales are closed after the marketer's fourth attempt, but many marketer give up after their second attempt. There are a few reasons why people say 'NO' to your business:
- They actually want to say 'YES, but have limited funds. Basically, they want you to show them why they should spend their hard earned money in this business. Watch for signs of apprehension or fear. Try to reassure them that they will be able to recover their investments quickly. Most companies have a generous buy buyback policy.
- They don't understand what you're saying and would rather give a negative response than appear ignorant. Never assume a prospect understands everything, even if the person has a background in business. Frequently pause during your presentation to ask them if your explanation is crystal clear.
- The prospect has difficulty making decisions, whether large or small. You have to help the person decide."
- The prospect is doubtful of success in the business. Provide reassurance.
- Sometimes the rejection or objection is a question in disguise. Your prospect may want more information, but doesn't know how to ask.
- Something you have said or done has offended the prospect. In this case, there is no obvious way to overcome this emotionally based objection.
No matter the reason, instead of taking rejection personally and getting all torn up about it, focus on moving on and building your business. You have to be creating relationships with more than one person simultaneously in order to reach your goals. Remember the 80:20 principle: that out of 10 people you speak to, perhaps only two will respond positively. Remember: Some Will. Some Won't. So What? Next!
